Meet Leila Dance

My name is Leila Dance and I am a lifelong resident of Elmwood-Transcona. I was raised in a strong community-oriented family, with both my parents volunteering on local library and museum boards and at local community centres. My father had a lifelong career at CN Rail and was a strong activist with the United Transportation Union. I still remember as a kid, I went door to door with my dad to drop election leaflets for Bill Blaikie and Daryl Reid.

I have spent the last 4 years working as the Executive Director of the Transcona BIZ. Previously, I worked for over 20 years in the not-for-profit sector at charities like the Children's Wish Foundation, the ALS Society of Manitoba, the Kidney Foundation, and Park City West Community Centre. As a community advocate, I have volunteered time to support the Transcona Food Bank, Plessis Family Resource Centre, Transcona Sea Cadets, Canterbury Park Greenspace Committee, First Transcona Scout Hall, and the Transcona Legion.

Why I’m Running

I'm running to make life better for working people, families, seniors, and everyone in Elmwood-Transcona. I'm proud of all the wonderful things Elmwood-Transcona has to offer, but also recognize the issues facing our community. I raised my son, Braeden, as a single mom, so I understand the importance of affordable living. I know the struggles we're facing like affording healthy food at the grocery store, or having to choose between visiting the dentist or getting our prescription drugs and keeping the lights on. I know that we can do better.

Over the last 25 years, I have worked to create connections between people, and to support and build local programs that improve the lives of our neighbours with solutions that meet people where they’re at. I want to continue this grassroots work on a larger scale as your Member of Parliament for Elmwood-Transcona. Together, there’s so much we can accomplish. To get started, I need your vote at the upcoming nomination meeting this spring.
